Portal Software (Nasdaq: PRSF) was up US$1 at $10.19 early Tuesday after the company announced a pair of agreements, including one to provide services to the UK division of mobile telecommunications company Vodafone.
Portal Software also unveiled Infranet 6.1, a new version of its flagship software product.
The company said that its Infranet platform will be used for Vodafone UK’s next wireless services, beginning this quarter.
Vodafone information technology director Malcolm Mitchell said that his company picked Portal because of its “flexible and proven capabilities for billing next-generation communications services.”
Vodafone has almost 12 million customers in the UK, according to the company.
Also Tuesday, Portal said it would team with SignalSoft (Nasdaq: SGSF) to develop customer management and billing services for companies doing business over wireless networks.
According to Brian McNiff, vice president of Internet services for SignalSoft, Portal Software’s Infranet platform, combined with SignalSoft’s local info software application, is “an innovative service offering for the wireless industry.” McNiff said that the combined offering will give carriers a business infrastructure for location-based services.
Through using the combined offering, the companies’ wireless customers will be able to “leverage the tremendous value contained in their location-aware networks,” McNiff said.
Portal also announced a new version of Infranet, which the company said is designed to “meet the specific needs of communication service providers.” Improvements include more support for wireless services, the company said.
Portal, based in Cupertino, California, provides software for communications and Internet business services. The company said its software is licensed by more than three-quarters of the world’s 30 largest communications services companies, including AOL Time Warner, Reuters and Sprint.
