Weinbach emphasized that Unisys has not missed their chance to jump on the Internet bandwagon. “The second wave of electronicbusiness — the moment when hypergrowth gears up — has just begun,” he said.

Weinbach used International Data Corporation (IDC) statistics to explain that business-to-business Internet commerce will reach $1.3 trillion (US$) by 2003. In response to these healthy projections, Unisys plans to deliver a comprehensive set of Web products tailored to specific industries.
Along with services and consulting, Unisys will produce the Unisyse-@ction Enterprise Server ES7000, a mainframe designed to rune-commerce software.
Agreements with Microsoft and Intel
The ES7000 mainframe is based upon Intel chips and Microsoft software, and Unisys expects this new package to match the performance of the UNIX-based computer at one-fifth the price.
The system includes a new partitioning flexibility that allows the computer to shift resources within its system without processing interruptions. This feature was developed to solve the unpredictable changes in workloads that are common with Internet software and hardware demands.
