"There are a couple of things happening," Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told the E-Commerce Times. Third Point, which has a 5.8 percent stake in Yahoo, "clearly has concerns about maximizing the value of that investment." Getting on Board...
It is almost certain that Nokia will leverage the relationship it has with Microsoft to gain an edge in the tablet market, Charles King, principal of Pund-IT, told TechNewsWorld. When Elop was hired, there was rampant speculation that Nokia would not only become a major Micr...
Dell already had functionality in the security space, but SonicWall's feature set is very complementary to that, Charles King, principal of Pund-IT, told the E-Commerce Times. "It is getting a company that builds firewall management solutions, which fills a hole in Dell's por...
Intel's launch of its new Xeon processor E5-2600 product family (aka "Sandy Bridge") marked numerous firsts for the company and x86 data centers. The new processors deliver leadership performance, best data center performance per watt, and breakthrough I/O innovation features, according to Intel, including the following: ...
In the run-up to the launch of any of Intel's newest generation Xeon CPUs, most every server vendor and its extended family starts jockeying for position over who has the bragging rights for the fastest, biggest, baddest x86 systems on the planet. The resulting Power Points tend to be mind-numbing, parsing out highly granular design points and technical details that can inspire even the geekiest server analyst to reach for a bottle of Extra Strength Tylenol...
"By postponing enforcement until just prior to Facebook's IPO, Yahoo likely hopes that the highly publicized event will raise the value of any settlement," Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told the E-Commerce Times "Yahoo is desperate," Lon Safko, social media entre...
Most interesting of all, though, is that while the servers are obviously the foundation of Dell's stepped-up push into the enterprise, the actual tech-speak was pretty thin at the press conference, Charles King, principal of Pund-IT, told the E-Commerce Times "They offer a sig...
But that's not much of an argument, Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told TechNewsWorld "It's a bit like comparing a Swiss Army Knife to a 10-inch chef's knife," King pointed out. "Just because you could perform a given job with a specific implement -- say, digging ...
Last week saw a pair of announcements by major vendors that reflect the degree to which solid state disk or flash caching technologies are moving into the mainstream: ...
"[Google] has the experience and IT infrastructure to support such a service, and specialized solutions like Dropbox have been a particularly bright corner of the commercial cloud market," Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told TechNewsWorld. "Given Google's assets, they could probably roll out a competitive offering at a very competitive price point in relatively short order."
"It's fair to call this the last gasp of the traditional Kodak company," Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told the E-Commerce Times. "For a company that was once synonymous with easy, affordable photography, it's surprising how severe its missteps have been over the last few years. They're now facing a reconfiguration of their core business." ...
"Due to the uptake of solid state drive and flash storage, hard disk vendors are facing a decline," Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told TechNewsWorld. "A commercially viable, affordable HAMR solution could literally breathe life into the troubled HDD industry." Th...
Between component miniaturization and the increasing use of information technologies, including video and audio feeds across various industries, "there would be dozens of potential applications if and when these [items] come to market," Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told TechNewsWorld...
TV "is just one conduit for what has become an increasingly large and diverse multi-channel information stream that companies feel they must fully leverage for maximum benefits," remarked Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT What Some Players Are Doing...
"Stringer has accomplished much of what he was hired for, mainly reorganizing and downsizing the company to capture increased efficiencies," Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told the E-Commerce Times. "Despite that, Sony's performance hasn't been what the BOD obviously hoped for. Some issues are obviously beyond Stringer's control -- natural disasters and the financial meltdown -- but the post-holiday shopping lull is a good time to elevate Hirai, who most have already considered Stringer's inevitable successor."
A bit over a year ago, the conventional wisdom related to enterprise IT vendors was fairly straightforward: Sheer size and depth of expertise gave end-to-end systems vendors unlimited access to the high ground. As markets recovered from the 2008 recession, enterprise customers would naturally stick with or gravitate toward large established players that could fulfill their every need. Being one-stop shops allowed systems vendors to engineer killer deals for cost-conscious enterprises and still walk away with healthy profits. Plus, the smartest of the bunch were leading the way in exotic new areas including cloud computing and dedicated big data appliances.
Intel is clearly broadening its approach to market, Charles King, principal with Pund-IT, told the E-Commerce Times, pointing to another acquisition the company announced this week, that of the InfiniBand standard from Qlogic for US$125 million "However, it's important to reme...
"At this point, the most likely course for AT&T seems to be to expand its own high-speed network assets and infrastructure," Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told the E-Commerce Times. However, a solution isn't likely to come quickly, he said. "That sort of effort ...

However, The Pirate Bay might be a little too optimistic in its predictions about the future with 3D printing, according to Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT "I believe [The Pirate Bay] may have mistaken a package of powdered magic mushrooms for their usual chai latt...
