BuyWiz Lightens the Load on Online Shoppers

In a move designed to help online shoppers sift through the abundance of products on the web, BuyWiz Inc. has launched a free “universal shopping cart” program. The software, which can be downloaded from the BuyWiz Web site, allows shoppers to collect items from a variety of different online stores and save that information in one place.

According to BuyWiz, any item can be purchased at any time with one click of the mouse. When it comes time to buy, the shopper fills out just one registration form for all the products.

Full Shopping Carts

The shopping cart can be used with more than 100 online stores, and the company plans to add more to its roster. Currently enabled sites include Amazon.com, Beyond.com, Egghead Software, eBay and Travelocity. Only a few stores have both BuyWiz’s storage and its one-click purchase capability enabled.

“BuyWiz users get the best of both worlds in online shopping — greatly increased convenience and speed for impulse buyers through universal one-click buying, as well as the luxury of window shopping for contemplative buyers,” BuyWiz President Gidon Fostick said.

The shopping cart gives users a way to compare prices of various items found at different Web sites, track prices and get updates on sales or price changes. By contrast, shopping carts available at individual online stores allow shoppers to pile up items from that store, but if the shopper leaves the site without completing the purchase, the list of items in the shopping cart disappears. If the customer comes back, he or she has to start all over again.

Abandoned Transactions

Citing Forrester Research reports that two-thirds of online visitors leave shopping sites without completing their purchase — even after filling up a shopping cart at the site — BuyWiz notes that its PC-based software eliminates that problem. Since the shopping cart is stored on the user’s PC, rather than at the shopping site, it does not have to disappear when the shopper leaves the online store. “This leads to educated buying decisions that can be considered for days or weeks,” BuyWiz boldly states.

BuyWiz was founded in January and is based in New York.
