Fox Announces New Cable, Internet Health Network

FOX Entertainment Group (NYSE: FOX) announced Thursday that it has formed a new media company called The Health Network. The new venture is scheduled to launch on cable and the Internet in July.

The new network is a spin-off of last March’s merger of FOX’s Fit TV and the American Health Network, the cable and Internet enterprise that has pioneered the broadcast of surgical procedures over the Internet.

The new network will be a fully integrated media venture, FOX said, combining new programming and health news with expanded e-commerce capabilities on the network’s Web site.

“We will put the power of FOX squarely behind the new cable and Internet venture to accelerate subscriber growth and expand the already formidable base of e-commerce opportunities,” said FOX Entertainment Group President, Peter Chernin.

Established Internet Site

The Health Network will launch with 17 million cable and satellite subscribers in 50 states and a Web Site that is already the 26th fastest-growing on the Internet, according to Media Metrix. American Health Network has been an Internet sensation in the past, particularly when it attracted 1.4 million viewers in a single day to witness a live birth broadcast over the Internet. The site offers live surgical procedures every week.

In addition to its plethora of links to virtually every health topic under the sun, the AHN has an online superstore, launched earlier this year. The mall features a wide range of health, fitness and medical products. AHN has partnership arrangements with other retailers, including Amazon.com, eToys.com, MotherNature.com and many others. The network was founded in 1993 and launched in 1996

FOX Entertainment Group operates on a global scale, with revenues of $7 billion (US$) and assets of $14 billion.
