Microsoft won’t allow their phone OS onto Tablets. Their strategy was announced that Windows 8 is being developed to run well on tablets and to be touch-friendly. The strategy is to leapfrog Apple with having same functionality as PCs and laptops. The unifying factor is the Metro interface and the Applications. Windows 8 apps will run on tablets, ultrabooks, notebooks, netbooks and desktop PCs. The phone OS and apps are a different animal and made only for the Windows phone environment, however they will share the metro look and feel. I expect this strategy to take off in ways that few expect or can predict, similarly to the way the original iPhone took off when cooler and better apps became available.
