More Giving Opportunities for Online Shoppers

Seattle, Washington’s GreaterGood.com is offering non-profit organizations a way to get in on electronic commerce to raise funds for their causes.

Through GreaterGood.com, non-profits of all shapes and sizes can set up a shopping center free on their own Web sites, and a portion of the revenues spent by shoppers will be passed to the organizations. The plan gives them a way to benefit from e-commerce while giving online shoppers a way to channel their spending power toward a cause.

Like iGive.com, GreaterGood.com also passes an immediate donation to the charity of the shopper’s choice when the shopper registers at the GreaterGood.com Web site.

GreaterGood.com says it will donate $3 to the shopper’s preferred charity upon registration. At press time, there were 16 non-profits online with GreaterGood.com, but shoppers are allowed to suggest a cause if it is not listed. Five percent of every purchase is donated to the shopper’s cause.

Shoppers can access the shopping village through a link on the non-profit organization’s home page or through GreaterGood.com. The village includes 33 brand-name stores such as Amazon.com, OfficeMax.com, 1-800-FLOWERS, eToys, jcrew.com and Orvis. GreaterGood.com also allows shoppers to sign up for a periodic e-mail bulletin notifying them of special offers from the merchants.

Enrollment Procedure

For the non-profit organizations, GreaterGood.com says it has made enrollment in the program simple and straightforward. The organizations must fill out an online application, which GreaterGood.com uses to verify the group’s non-profit status.

Once authorized, the non-profit gets an online marketing tool kit from GreaterGood.com and buttons to use to link to the shopping village. The connection takes about 30 days to set up.
