Outpost.com (Nasdaq: COOL) fell 1/8 to1 15/16 Friday after president Robert A. Bowman resigned to head the Internet and media operations of Major League Baseball.
Katherine N. Vick, who has been chief financial officer at the Kent,Connecticut-based company, is replacing Bowman effective immediately.Bowman will remain on the board of directors.
Outpost.com said Paul Williams III, senior vice president of finance, willtake over the position of CFO.
Bowman’s title at Major League Baseball is president and chief executiveofficer of MLB Advanced Media, a separately incorporated business thatencompasses the MLB.com Web site and the 30 team Internet sites.
Bowman, who said he is leaving only because of his love of baseball, calledVick “preeminently qualified” to serve as president. “She has beenintimately involved in the daily operation of the company and in setting ourstrategic direction,” he said.
Chairman Darryl Peck said the management transition is a logical step forthe company. “We have made great strides in moving Outpost.com towardprofitability and have positioned the company to achieve that goal nextyear,” he said. “Our core business is healthy, our e-business servicesrelationships are strong and growing, and we have strengthened the B2Bsegment of our business.”
Vick, 48, has been with the company since 1997.
Outpost.com, which sells consumer technology products over the Internet,recently announced “click-and-mortar” partnerships with Tweeter HomeEntertainment Group, Brookstone and Wolf Camera. Outpost.com’s e-businessservices division provides site design, order management and other servicesto businesses.
Outpost.com’s loss for the second quarter ended August 31st narrowed to 23cents per share from 36 cents in the year-earlier quarter, as sales rose 97percent to US$72.3 million. The company also goes by the name CyberianOutpost.
