V-ONE Corp. (Nasdaq: VONE), a security software solutions provider, announced this week that the release of its new Instant Extranet Server (IXS) product will ship with version 6.0 of the Linux operating system (OS) distribution from Red Hat (Nasdaq: RHAT).
A provider of Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions that enable businesses to engage in secure online communications, V-ONE designed its IXS product to automatically install Red Hat Linux. Integrating with the company’s VPN SecureGate product, V-ONE’s IXS for Linux bundles Web and FTP servers along with a secure e-mail component.
“With IXS, V-ONE now has a range of solutions that effectively reach down to the small and medium-sized business market in addition to multi-billion dollar global entities,” said David D. Dawson, chairman and CEO of V-ONE. “The need to communicate mission-critical information securely is shared by all businesses regardless of size.”
IXS and E-Commerce
Designed for ease of installation and use, IXS targets companies of any size who are looking to secure their business functions conducted over the Internet — including those wishing to establish an e-commerce operation. V-ONE customer Ed Lee, vice president in charge of applications development for TYC Associates, commented that IXS allows his company “to access files, e-mail and databases without any problem.”
“We are also implementing an e-commerce solution using IXS to provide a secure transaction environment for our customers and the application,” added Lee. “With IXS, we can now permit our employees to securely access our corporate network remotely through the Internet without worrying about the security of the data or the need to do a special set up with our firewall.”
“We knew instinctively there would be a demand for this product, which has been re-affirmed in recent conversations we’ve had with many of our customers about IXS,” commented Mark Meszaros, president of Intes.net, a new V-ONE distributor specializing in Linux and open source solutions. “The reason is clear — there’s compelling value in an auto-installing, easy-to-use solution that provides secure LAN access for less than $1,000 (US$).”
SmartGate VPN by V-ONE features an open architecture that complements network firewall products available through companies such as AXENT Technologies, Cisco, IBM and Network Associates. The security product runs not only on Linux, but other platforms including Windows NT and CE, HP-UX from Hewlett-Packard, Solaris and UNIX.
