WorldKey Launches International E-Commerce Security Service

As it looks to promote trusted internationale-commerce, Credit Bancorp Ltd. partner CBL WorldKey LLC has launched a new open-standard public key infrastructure (PKI)-based security service that is designed to guarantee a variety of online transactions. Global Peak Certification Authority (GPCA), the new service, taps into the power of digital certificates provided by the World Internet Secure Electronic Key Organisation (WISeKey). Digital certificates, based upon encryption technology, provide digitized signatures and incorporate user-selected and authenticated attributes for secure online transactions.

Taking E-Commerce To the Next Level

“Our system helps take the Internet to the next level by fully securing Internet communications in all its forms in every country on Earth,” commented Richard J. Blech, CBL WorldKey CEO. “With CBL WorldKey as the Global Peak Certification Authority, we are now established as the Attribute Authorization Authority, or AAA, that enables businesses, governments or any organization, anywhere in the world, to encode specific attributes into their certificates.”

CBL WorldKey’s certification operates on several levels of security. “With these attributes in place,” added Blech, “authentication of the users can be exactly tailored to their e-commerce needs.”

Securing E-Commerce In Developing Countries

“While current e-commerce revenue is overwhelmingly in the United States, an established security infrastructure will allow developing markets to become a force in the global e-commerce arena,” observed Blech. “Established markets can now transact business, or exchange information, in complete confidence with emerging markets via the Internet.”

Additionally, the CBL WorldKey service supports the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Electronic Commerce for Developing Countries (ED-DC) project created to bolster online business. ITU, along with industry titans IBM and Oracle, recognizes WISeKey technology and have moved into the company’s corner.

Key-Commerce

“CBL WorldKey turns e-commerce into key-commerce,” Blech said. Tapping into the Global Common ROOT and Certification Practice Statement (CPS) developed by the International Secure Electronic Transactions Organization (ISETO), CBL WorldKey’s service works with the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) X509 version 3 certificates that guarantee Global Cross Certification.

CBL WorldKey provides services to Certificate Authorities (CAs) such as Baltimore Technologies (London: BLM), Entrust Technologies and VeriSign (Nasdaq: VRSN).

The device that generates the WISeKey certificates is based upon an offline procedure, and is never connected with any outside transmission line. The company will demonstrate its new service at the Global e-Security ’99 conference in Dublin, Ireland.
